Femke Smeets

Femke Smeets is a Partner at Total Impact Capital Europe. She heads the healthcare advisory projects at the European office and is actively involved in healthcare impact fund management mandates of the European as well as US offices. In this role, she leads partnerships with the European Commission, EIB, European DFIs, and donors. She is responsible for a wide variety of projects and assignments, including:
The development, fundraising, and management of the Healthcare investment mandate, including securing de-risking instruments such as guarantees and technical assistance.
Supporting global healthcare businesses and investment funds (PE, VC, impact funds) with impact investment strategy development, investment structuring, and fundraising.
Advising a wide range of corporate and NGO clients and partners scaling their innovations in lower and middle-income countries.
Advocacy and thought leadership for organizations like Malaria No More, the Health Finance Coalition, GBC Health, and Wilton Park, amongst others.
Femke is an advisory board member and future Investment Committee member of the Humanitarian Health Fund of the International Red Cross. Moreover, she is a non-executive board member of FRES, a renewable energy venture operating in vulnerable Sub-Saharan African countries.
Femke worked at the PharmAccess Group. She started in 2012 as an investment advisor for healthcare infrastructure projects and PPPs and subsequently started and led the Technical Assistance facility of the Medical Credit Fund, where she set up executive business courses in partnership with African business schools in Africa, amongst other activities. From 2017-2020, she headed the business development team, responsible for developing new projects and ventures with key (corporate) partners and raising approx. EUR 20 mln of funding per year. Femke started her career in public administration (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in the Netherlands and New York and subsequently moved to the water sector, where she worked in international business development and PR for the Netherlands Water Partnership.
