Job Description
We are currently seeking a part-time Accountant to join our team in the Bethesda, Maryland office. You will be responsible for day-to-day accounting activities consisting of the management and reporting of all transactions for TOTAL itself and the various entities it manages. Your duties will include daily journal entries, bank statement reconciling, monthly/quarterly closing of each entity, preparing financial statements, examining and analyzing accounts, and ensuring compliance with financial reporting and other standard accounting procedures. On an ad-hoc basis, you will also assist with the management of TOTAL’s relationships with suppliers and vendors and other business-related projects.
The position will require 20 hours a week. TOTAL is a hybrid working environment based in our Bethesda, MD office. Most staff spend ~50% of the time in the office and are remote ~50% of the time. TOTAL is open to remote work arrangements specific to each staff member.
Key Responsibilities
For TOTAL and various TOTAL-managed entities:
Reconcile bank accounts, manage monthly/quarter-end closing processes, generate monthly/quarterly reports
Prepare quarterly and annual P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements
Track and manage financial reporting schedules for the various entities TOTAL manages
Ensure proper accounting policies and principles are followed in accordance with US GAAP and best practices
Support annual audits and the internal control environment for multiple entities
Manage the treatment of fixed assets, including capitalizations, depreciation/amortization.
Research appropriate accounting treatment of complex transactions
Respond to inquiries from other departments regarding accounting recording, reporting requests, and the like
Assist with the calculation and payment of taxes
Assist with the management of contracts with suppliers and clients
Desired Qualifications
3+ years of professional working experience in Accounting, preferably at a financial, investing, or consulting firm
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics or equivalent experience
CPA preferred
US GAAP accounting
Experience working with QuickBooks and Excel
Ability to operate with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment
Ability to work closely with other departments and clients to obtain transaction information, research reconciling items, and resolve issues
Excellent attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, and consideration of follow-through
Understanding of and interested in the impact investing and social enterprise sectors is a plus
Team player and hard worker
